We take a closer look at the responsive corporate website we recently launched for Ascent Resources plc
Enhancing stakeholder communications
We delivered a new corporate website for Ascent Resources plc (AST), an AIM listed independent oil and gas exploration and production company with a focus on European onshore projects.
Their previous website was developed around seven years ago and it’s fair to say that the design hadn’t changed significantly throughout the years.
The previous website suffered from many of the technical issues commonly facing sites of a similar age – it wasn’t responsive for mobiles and tablets, the code wasn’t delivered to an agreed standard and it wasn’t optimised for search engines.
The content management system supporting the website was also fairly restrictive (including additional maintenance costs), and we believe the overall look and feel was also quite dated compared to today’s modern standards and user expectations.
As a business, Ascent Resources plc is now moving into a new phase that will see the Petišovci project in Slovenia come into production during 2017, so the time was right to develop a flexible new framework that would continue to support the business and their stakeholder communications as their need to communicate increases.
Brighter IR have done a great job of creating our new website. We are all delighted with it. The whole process was remarkably trouble free – beautifully managed in an efficient, friendly and professional way. The team responded very quickly to our requests before the launch and has continued to provide a swift, responsive service. Brighter IR is a pleasure to work with and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the company.
Exceeding user expectations with a modern approach
We began the project by performing an audit of the previous website in order to identify potential areas for improvement. We also spent time with Ascent discussing their business, the history and importantly, where they are heading to ensure the new site would be able to cater for additional content and grow with the company as necessary.
Once again we selected WordPress for the project. It’s the most widely used Content Management System on the planet, and with good reason. It’s also perfect for this sort of project as it allows us to deliver a professional looking website that’s easy to manage and keep updated. WordPress is also Open Source, meaning the client isn’t wedded to us and is able to take their website with them in future, an important consideration for any company currently stuck with proprietary software developed by their incumbent supplier.
As a company about to move into production, it’s important that the new website is able to promote news and media content being delivered and hosted by a number of service providers. The previous Press Releases section was simply a list of PDFs and links, so we re-imagined this content into a more modern masonry grid that utilises the Posts function within WordPress. Adding new articles and snippets is now easier than ever and can even be done on the move using a mobile or tablet device.
As you might expect, we have also embedded our investor relations tools and services. Regulatory news is now automatically posted to the site as soon as it’s released, with automatic email alerts also offered to keep audiences informed, and we hope investors will also make use of the share price chart to keep track of Ascent’s performance.
